In March 2019 the phone rang late in the evening. A local farm was very sadly selling up and they needed a special place for their special Shetland Pony, Mr. Pickles. He should be called “Mr Rascles” as if he is left alone in a large space he is surprisingly fast and nigh on impossible to catch!
He was born on 3rd May 2010 and it appears as though he was mistreated at some point in his life which makes him panic. However, as Agnieszka says in her animal diary, “He is a sweet pony and with some time he should be as good as gold”.
We soon came to think that Mr Pickles badly needed a friend so the search was on. Initially we thought about a donkey but time was of the essence and we found Polly via preloved.com
Polly’s owners were fellow smallholders who were beginning to downsize their farm and start their next journey in life. So we trundled up the M6 with our small Suzuki 1.6 towing a huge horse box to go and collect her. Polly (aka Tina Turner) is a gorgeous miniature Shetland pony, born 20th May 2010 and is really easy to handle.
This is really a love/love relationship as can be seen by the above photo only minutes after they first met. If you hear one of the ponies neighing it is because we are temporarily “bringing one in for maintenance” – they cannot stand to be separated!
We try to walk Mr Pickles and Polly every evening and if you’d like to join us and take a reign then you are
more than welcome – we’ll ask you if you don’t ask us!
