August and September are the best months to make the most of the summer bounty of fruit and vegetables. Why do we preserve? I suppose to ensure that we have something delicious to eat in winter. I also find that it’s hugely satisfying to make your own jams, chutney or pickles. On top of that they usually taste better than their ‘bought’ counterparts and you know what went in them!
I have been trying different recipes using fruit and vegetables that we have grown on our farm. We also ventured out to do some foraging, especially for wild blackberries and bilberries. The plan is to launch our own brand of super natural and tasty preserves that would be available to the guests staying in our cottages, as well as sold at local produce markets.
